E11 Map

E11 is a postal district in East London, largely consisting of Leytonstone, Snaresbrook and Wanstead.

From it’s most westerly point, within touching distance of Leyton High Road, the E11 boundary stretches east as far as the River Roding and the A406. The northern tip starts just shy of South Woodford, with Cann Hall in Leytonstone being the most southerly port of call.

A system of postal districts was first introduced to London in 1858, pre-dating the general introduction of postcodes throughout the United Kingdom by almost a century.

The first system divided the city into ten sectors, identified by letters. Numbered sub-divisions were later added in 1917 and no form the first part of the modern two-part postcodes used today.

It’s worth noting that the boundaries of London’s postal districts are completely different to it’s local government boundaries. E11 currently spans parts of two London Boroughs, Waltham Forest and Redbridge.
